FAQ

Below are the answers to the frequently asked questions we’ve received.

What is a Personal Training session?

A Personal Training session is an instructor led fitness session where a client will undertake exercise under the instructors supervision, sessions can vary widely in time and effectiveness. (BFit sessions are either 30 mins or an hour in length). A personal trainer will in prior consultation with the client develop a plan of the session to be undertaken, focusing on furthering a clients goals, their current ability and fitness levels, any injury a client may currently be carrying, and the available equipment to be used. Personal training can also be things like, small group training, nutrition planning, injury rehabilitation, lifestyle coaching, as well as other aspects of fitness.

How long will it take to see the results I want?

Well it depends almost entirely on what they are and how hard you want to work for them! Most clients report seeing positive changes after about 4 weeks and that family and friends notice changes after 10-12 weeks though this can vary wildly between clients. Clients normally undertaking at least two PT sessions a week are the first to report these results.

Who can you train?

We can train anyone over the age of 18.

I’m nervous it all seems a bit much?

Please try not to worry, everyone finds it a bit nerve-racking to start with (I know I did!) – drop me a message beforehand and I’ll come meet you outside so we can walk in together and go have a bit of a chat in the office first. We can also arrange to book a session time when there are generally fewer people in the gym for a more relaxed workout!

What days and times can I book in?

You can book in between 0700 – 2130 Monday to Friday and 0900 – 1400 Saturday and Sunday. We understand people are living busy lives so our hours are flexible to suit all needs

I can’t make the same session each week – are you flexible on times?

Yes. We totally understand that people lead busy lives, and need to be flexible with different working patterns and personal commitments so we’re flexible on sessions and you won’t have to stick to the same time each week.

What do I need to bring to my first PT session?

Wear some clothes that fit that are comfortable and non-restrictive, Footwear should be comfortable and provide adequate support. Bring a water bottle and a towel and a positive attitude! If you are currently taking any prescription medications please bring a list!

Do I need a doctors note or similar to exercise?

All clients must complete a PAR-Q before commencing any exercise programme. This is a Physical Readiness Questionnaire which will be carried out at the start of your first session, it will help to identify any health restrictions. As such we may require a letter of ‘medical clearance’ from your GP. Please be aware that your GP may charge you for this. Any questions please drop us a message All client information will be kept strictly private and confidential.

What if I need to cancel a session?

A minimum of 24 hours notice of cancellation is required for all appointments, so we can reallocate your session. Notice of less than 24 hours will incur full payment of the session fee, to cancel please either phone, facebook DM or message through the Bfit app.

What if I’m running late?

No worries, life happens! We’ll try to be as flexible as we can if you let us know however if you’re late for your session, your session time may be reduced accordingly. If you’re more than 20 minutes late for your session, the session may be cancelled and marked as redeemed. If for any reason we need to cancel your booked session with less than 24 hours’ notice, or your instructor is more than 10 minutes late for your session, you will receive a replacement session free of charge

What types of training do you offer?

We develop a customised training programme for each of our clients, tailored toward their wishes, allowing them to reach their stated goals in a reasonable time frame. The types of training covered are weight loss, endurance, flexibility and stretching, as well as strength, core and functional fitness training. Our ideal is that you learn to develop your own fitness routines as you progress, we’ll teach you how to perform the exercises and how to use the equipment – you can then, over time decide when you want to use it in your own workouts.

What exercises will we do, I’m worried they’ll be too difficult?

We program all kinds of exercises suitable for a clients needs, some will definitely be challenging (that’s kind of the point of training). Our job is to find a training programme that you’re happy with and is beneficial so that you’ll stick to it in order for you to reach your goal.

How much is it?

Prices vary as we offer various packages with discounts on block bookings.

How and when do I pay?

We prefer you to pay via the Bfitapp (via credit/debit card), but you can if you wish, pay by cash or via a debit card transfer on the day.  All sessions paid for in the bulk buy discounted packages must be completed within 14 weeks of booking the first session unless otherwise agreed.

Why should I spend money on a personal trainer when I can do it by myself?

Of course you can train alone, we have however found people gain much faster and greater results when they supplement that with additional personal training providing a clear plan, a structure and expert advice for each workout, and continual motivation to keep people on track, Don’t just take our word for it.

I don’t respond well to barked orders, what is your approach?

My job is to motivate you whichever way is most beneficial to you. Some people respond to encouragement, whilst some like to be pushed hard; it’s all about having an honest partnership where we have an open feedback loop so you’re happy with our sessions, I may well be shouting encouragement at you ten minutes before the end of a session but barking orders isn’t really my style.

Can I bring a friend or relative?

Yes! Absolutely! We offer one-to-one training Buddy Buddy (two clients) or small group sessions. Whether it’s working out as a couple or bringing up to two friends we have the package to suit you – mail me at bryanskinnerpt@gmail.com for more details.

How often do I have to or can I train with you?

That is entirely up to you and depends on the amount of time you have and how committed you are. Usually, we train with our clients at least twice a week.

What is a fitness check and do I need one?

A fitness check is a series of health questions and tests delivered by your PT to gain some insight and make some recommendations for improving your health and well-being in the future. Whilst a fitness check of this nature is no substitute for seeing your GP it can help to identify areas of improvement for your health and highlight fitness targets for the future!

This Nutrition Plan? I don’t want to starve myself or just eat Chai Seeds all day?

We’re not ones for fad diets at BFit just healthy eating, enjoying food and fuelling your body correctly, so whilst calorie restriction will almost certainly be a thing if you are trying to lose weight, BFit Nutrition Plans are designed to make sure you are not hungry and can still have fun eating!

Do you recommend workout supplements as part of your Nutrition Pans?

We at BFit are also not a huge fan of the majority of fitness and bodybuilding supplements, They are called Supplements for a reason, they are supposed to augment food not replace it! However there are times at which a protein shake might be a convenient way to consume nutrients when the alternative would have been a missed meal We are of course able to advise on the use of more traditional fitness supplements like ZMA, creatine, etc. if necessary.

I have special dietary requirements, is this an issue?

Not at all, BFit Nutrition Plans can be provided for Vegan, Vegetarian, Intolerant/allergic eating, Halal, Kosher, Dairy/Gluten free, etc. – please message any dietary requirements when purchasing a Nutrition Plan to bryanskinnerpt@gmail.com.

I have some equipment at home already, can you show me how to use it?

Short answer – yes. If you send me a description/photos of the equipment you have, the area you are using and what you want to achieve (Fat loss, Strength training, toning, etc) I can design you a workout that you can do in your own home. Please allow a small turn around time for me to create and test the workout.
