I train with a friend and we both work at different abilities, we have preferred exercise styles and like different workouts. This can make personal training quite challenging; ensuring we both get the work out we need and want. However Bryan Skinner (BFit) has been incredible. I feel like BFit really cares about you as an individual. Other Personal trainers have taken a generic approach which has left one of us at a disadvantage however, Bryan ensures that each work out is reflective of our individual abilities and personal goals. It’s truly a bespoke service with a person who’s an utter inspiration, really encouraging and super motivating. Sessions are always dynamic, interesting, fun and I always feel that I’ve worked out whether its cardio or strengthening I know he’s working me to my max. I can’t recommend BFit enough!!

I met Bryan shortly after he became a PT when he was filling in as an instructor for a HIIT class at the Life Centre. In the 18 months prior, I’d been on a mission at Brickfields to lose weight, going from 17 to 11 stone with the support of everyone here. When I’d finished losing the weight and fit into my wedding dress, I wondered “where do I go from here?” After that HIIT class I was hooked on the intensity of the workout. I was reminded of my lifestyle in Canada, when I was uber fit, younger, and hadn’t been shocked by leaving my whole life to move to England. In that time I’d found pasties, the perfect curry, and a lot of comfort eating.

I decided that I wanted to do something that had always eluded me, the wide grip pull-up. I reached out to Bryan and asked him to help me achieve my goal. I knew he was the man for the job – knowledgeable, tenacious and creative. It took a bit of time, but I eventually nailed it. Nothing makes you feel that awesome!

Since then, my goals continue to change. Now we’re working on things I never thought I could do, like deadlifting and squatting twice my bodyweight…I’m so close. More importantly, through the entire time that I’ve been working with Bryan I’ve also been working against my binge-eating self. I’ve had so many days that I wanted to give-up but Bryan’s never quit on me, he’s provided guidance and support. Bryan doesn’t pull any punches, he makes you work hard, but he makes you work hard for yourself.

When it comes to exercise, I’ve always struggled with motivation. I’m not the guy in the gym slogging it out by myself on the treadmill. I need someone to bounce off, to cheer me on for that last push to go harder, faster or heavier. That’s why I love training with Bryan. It’s not simply training by numbers, he brings such amazing energy to each and every session. We’ve worked out in the gym, we’ve done group exercise, we’ve flipped tyres and we’ve sprinted up hills on Dartmoor. I always come away with a huge smile on my face (even when I’m totally knackered!) and I can’t recommend Bryan enough.

I first met Bryan at his weekly Blast! class in Plymouth Life Centre. I had signed up to participate in a full Tough Mudder obstacle course followed by the Royal Marine Commando Challenge two weeks later (what was I thinking!?!) I needed a goal to work towards in order to set myself an exercise regime and almost force me to do it.

I knew I would need additional support to be fit and strong enough to complete these challenges. Having spoken to Bryan, I instantly felt comfortable around him and knew that he would be the right person to support me. Fast forward 6 months and I successfully completed both courses – both were challenging in their own right, especially as I dislike running! I am stronger and fitter than I was but am still on my journey.

My body shape has changed for the better and my muscles have become more defined.

Bryan is approachable, knowledgeable and has a passion for helping people achieve their goals. He is non-judgemental and will support you with whatever it is you need to do, whether this is losing weight and providing nutritional advice or improving your fitness and/or strength and conditioning by writing an exercise plan and showing you exactly how to use weight machines safely. Each workout plan is tailored to the individual, updated regularly as fitness and strength improves and takes into account any limitations (for example, if you have a current or historic injury) Bryan also tailors his training style to each client, pushing you to do better, encouraging you and also giving ‘tough love’ when needed. Bryan is a pleasure to work with and I could not recommend him more, look forward to seeing what the future holds!
